Project Overview

The purpose of the SEA LIFE Aquarium – Retail Shop project was to provide a durable, level, and visually appealing concrete surface to support the development of the aquarium’s high-traffic retail space in downtown San Antonio.

Located inside Shops at Rivercenter and adjacent to SEA LIFE San Antonio, this project required precision coordination, strict cleanliness standards, and flexible scheduling to avoid disruption to surrounding businesses and guests.

Scope of Work

The project consisted of the following:

• Interior Surface Prep
• Grading & Subgrade Preparation
• Doweling & Rebar Tying
• Form Setting
• Concrete Pumping
• Interior Concrete Placement & Finishing
• Moisture Protection & Site Containment
• Night / After-Hours Work

Project Challenges

Working within an active retail and entertainment environment required detailed planning and execution. Key challenges included:

• Limited access through shared mall corridors
• Protection of adjacent storefronts and pedestrian pathways
• Strict noise and dust control requirements
• Coordinating concrete placement during non-business hours

To minimize disruption, protective barriers, vapor protection, and floor coverings were installed to ensure surrounding tenant spaces remained clean.

Results

The completed work provided a smooth, structurally sound foundation ready for retail build-out and finish installation. The project was delivered efficiently, safely, and without interruption to daily mall operations.
